Civil Society Organisations Research Book launch and Symposium

On Tuesday, 18 October 2016, the National Development Agency (NDA) will launch its research book on Civil Society Organisations titled:Enhancing Civil Society participation in the South African Development Agenda: The role of CSOs.” The launch will also form part of a symposium where a range of stakeholders from the state, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) sector, private sector and academia will look at findings of the research.

The NDA, an agency of the National Department Of Social Development, has over the past three years, conducted a number of research studies aimed at informing the state, the civil society sector and other stakeholders on issues affecting the civil society sector in its quest to positively contribute to the development agenda of the Republic of South Africa.

The Book that will be launched forms part of the NDA’s secondary mandate of conducting research that informs national development policy and the promotion of critical dialogue between the CSO sector and various State organs. The book contains comprehensive studies that were conducted on areas such as poverty, the role of the sector in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, the funding landscape of the sector and programmes implemented by the sector.

The Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will be the keynote speaker and will officially launch the research book. Researchers from the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), Co-Operative for Research and Education (CORE) and other partners in the sector, will present findings of the research contained in some of the chapters in the book and encourage debate on issues that affect the CSO sector and state on development policy in South Africa.
