Mzansi Act Now, in collaboration with the National Development Agency (NDA), are organizing the Kathorus Candlelight on the 1st of December 2020 in the Kathorus region, Katlehong Corner Limpopo from 16h00 to 19h00, amidst the rising numbers of Femicide, sexual violence, abductions of womxn and children in the City of Ekurhuleni and South Africa as a whole.

Act Now and the NDA extend an invitation to all media fraternities in a bid to send a strong message to communities about the outcome of the impact caused by violence aimed at womxn and children, families and broader civil society. This initiative is focused at championing Kathorus in the City of Ekurhuleni region into a safe zone, prioritizing social ills such as Gender Based Violence and Femicide, Substance Abuse, Violence and Crime. Act Now's stance is aimed at changing the behaviour of the people thus enabling responsible citizenry and ushering in the New Man who is not conformed by patriarchy and a violent behaviour.

The NDA in partnership with Act Now, will also use the Kathorus Candlelight as a platform to launch the NDA's 16 Days of Activism campaign. The NDA wants to call on all Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to utilise their networks in communities to escalate South Africa's response to gender-based violence and Femicide.  CSOs continue to play an important role in assisting government to promulgate programmes that contribute towards prevention, care, support and healing of all vulnerable persons affected by gender-based violence and Femicide.

The Kathorus Candlelight also seeks to shine a spot light on victims, their families and all pending cases of Gender Based Violence and Femicide in Kathorus. The rate of womxn abductions, gender based violence and Femicide, crime and substance abuse is amongst the highest in the country and one of the key challenges in the prevention of social ills is broader civil society ignoring taking a firm stand against them.

We are fully aware of the COVID - 19 regulations to gatherings of this nature and we commit to abide by them. We will be observing social distancing during the activation and we will have marshals on site to make sure that the regulations are followed.
