Friday, 13 October 2023 - Eskom Development Foundation (EDF) and the National Development Agency (NDA) have partnered to deliver early childhood development resources to Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the Cape Winelands and Garden Route Districts in the Western Cape.

34 ECD centres in Mossel Bay, George, Oudtshoorn, Worcester, Rawsonville and Robertson have benefited from the partnership to the value of R1 835 637.90.

This investment, from EDF, will positively impact on the emotional, social and physical development of the young children attending these ECDs. The investment enabled the purchase and distribution of teacher learning support material, indoor and outdoor play equipment, medical aid kits, fire extinguishers and kitchen equipment. These are utilised for the full development of children including the strengthening and promotion of fine and gross motor skills development and enhancement. EDF’s corporate social responsibility to early childhood development is aligned to the National Development Plan’s Chapter 9: “To make early childhood development a top priority among the measures to improve the quality of education and long-term prospects of future generations”.

“The NDA complements this investment by providing ECDs with legislative compliance, governance and financial administration training. We are also able to link corporates such as Eskom to identify and profile civil society organisations in remote and poor areas that are registered and require assistance in meeting their development needs,” says Mr Ardiel Soeker, NDA Western Cape Provincial Manager.

This private-public partnership is also being implemented in two districts of the Eastern Cape, Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth) and Amathole (Peddie).
